A former bank in an historic market town centre has been converted into 6 flats. The Victorian building positioned in the heart of the Town Centre Conservation Area had been vacant for a number of years and needed urgent rescue from extensive dry rot infestation.
Liaising with the Conservation Officer BM3 Architecture devised a package of work that inserts new party walls and partitions into the existing structure to create the new dwellings. The flats are self contained and the means of distributing incoming services, and devising a fire strategy for the reconfigured building have been challenging design issues, particularly as it could not change in appearance as a result.
