White Ladies Close, Worcester

ClientAbbey Field Worcester Society Ltd / Thomas Vale Construction
Cost£4.5m

BM3 Architecture on behalf of Abbeyfield Worcester Society Ltd and Thomas Vale Construction are proposing a new development for 37 extra care dwellings with associated ancillary accommodation at White Ladies Close. The site is currently occupied by several light industrial buildings. This scheme is intended to provide high quality elderly persons accommodation promoting independent living and at the same time providing support to residents with needs.

Individual flats have been designed to allow the use of wheelchairs. Each flat will have facilities to enable residents to live independently, encouraging residents to remain active whilst allowing privacy.

The development will provide a mix of 1 and 2 bedroom high quality apartments. In addition to the apartments there are associated ancillary facilities such as activity spaces, a communal lounge and dining facilities and a health and beauty salon. The development promotes sustainable living.

The massing was high in relation to this site; therefore to prove no overlooking occurred and that the building fitted well within the local vernacular, we had to demonstrate this with sketches and 3d rendered elevations and ensure extensive resident consultation.
