Heenans Social Club, Worcester

ClientWorcester Community Housing / Speller Metcalf
Cost£1.6m

This scheme was developed by Worcester Community for St Pauls who provide accommodation and support to single homeless people within Worcester City and around the county. The hostel operates a 'dry' house and substance misuse service for street drinkers, rough sleepers and resettlement services. The new build section accommodates 16 single person self contained flats including two disabled flats, offices and amenity spaces on the ground floor. The front of the site sits a 19th century building which will be converted to offices in keeping and re-establishing most of the original characteristics. This locally listed building was originally a social club and has been detrimentally modified over the past 50 years.

As the building has a new user group, local residents were very concerned about the problems this may bring to the area, we have held several consultations with both local residents and local councillors whilst ensuring we secured the support of the local Police.
