Brunswick Road, Handsworth

ClientBMHT / Capita / Keepmoat
Cost£3,500,000

Using the PLI funding round, Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust (BMHT) managed to secure capital to develop this complex in the heart of Handsworth. The design team was required to overcome numerous service and site issues to be able to make progress on this project. The site forms a unique shape with the main part of Brunswick Road and fingers of land extending north and south between the existing terraces.

Our design was required to seamlessly knit into the existing Victorian homes off the fingers while creating a new contemporary street scene for the main frontage and site behind. Our design echoed the existing style form and height in the infill areas. Elsewhere similar materials were used in a contemporary form and style to create a strong identity for the new homes.
