Working to a development brief prepared by the Local Authority, BM3 Architecture was appointed by Keepmoat Regeneration to produce a competition entry for a Retail scheme as part of a larger masterplan. Following a rigorous interview process the Keepmoat team were selected as the preferred developer to deliver the scheme.

The overall masterplan aim was to reintroduce the tight urban grain of the surrounding area and to relocate the retail section of the development so that it is situated along the Dudley Road as this is a more secure and accessible location. The approach was also to introduce an architectural element into the masterplan which would not only provide public facilities but also complement the new contemporary housing on one side and blend into the existing architectural fabric. The retail section also acts as a buffer zone between the residential development and one of the main vehicular routes through the city.

Throughout the design process we worked closely with the existing shop keepers and have held regular consultation events. By doing this we have arrived at a design solution that satisfies the retailers and local resident needs alike.
